KYB is the OEM supplier to Subaru and has just introduced an adjustible shock for the Impreza and Legacy (not Legacy Outback)   in the AGX line. These units are 4-way front and 8-way rear adjustible. In gereral, standard springs will use positon 1-2 front and 2-3 rear and you will find the position 2 front and position 3-4 rear are usable with our SPD/Eibach sport spring kits. The big attraction of the AGX set is the ability to turn the shocks to 3-4 front and 5-8 rear for autocross or track days where a stiffer shock provides much better control.

We also sell a KYB shock that is the replacement shock for the WRX in Japan. It is also suitable for the Legacy and is sold in the US as a replacement Legacy shock. We have confirmed the shock rates of this shock with KYB and compared them to the WRX rates published by Subaru. There are eight different shocks sold in the aftermarket by KYB in Japan for the Subaru, but this is the only Legacy standard shock that is sold in the US. We feel that the AGX is a better solution, but they are more expensive and are warranted for only two years, vs. a life time warranty for the origional owner of the standard shock.

We find the standard shock usable as Legacy sedan and wagons (not Legacy Outback) or any Impreza as a replacement shock. If working on a tight budget, a larger18mm rear sway bar and the KYB sport shock units are the better solution to good handling than simply changing the springs. This is especially true for the Impreza Outback Sport and 5-door sedans which have a unique spirng set.

There are several shock manufactures in Japan that have performance shocks, but at this time they are not readly availble nor do they have the refinement of the Prodrive or KYB inverted shocks.
