Where do we get the leather Momo steering wheels from the WRX?

All Subaru steering wheels are designed by Momo. The 1999 RS has a version of the WRX Momo wheel without the Momo logo. SPD has a limited quantity of STI "black ring" nd "silver ring" Momo Airbag wheels. These wheels will fit 1995-97 and 1998-2000 Impreza or Legacy cars. The wheel, air bag and charge unit are changed.

What seats fit a Subaru and do I need them?

Good driving seats become necessary as the car is tuned for higher cornering forces. When you approach .75g of cornering force you begin to use the steering wheel as a hand hold. "One hand for the boat and one hand for yourself" may be the sailor’s rule for not going over board, but it does not work as well for quick driving.

A proper seat will have shoulder bolsters to keep the g load out of your hands, and leg bolsters to keep it out of your feet.

What choices are there?

There are a limited number of WRX and WRX-RA STI front seat sets available from SPD Tuning. They have the high back similar to a Recaro SR seat. These seats are the same frame construction on bottom as the standard seat with hard foam thigh bolsters and a new, fitted upper seat frame. IF you are over 5’11" and 200 lbs. these seats are to be preferred over the Recaro SRD. When available, they are currently $1024 per pair. They list new at $1200 each, so this is a fair deal.

If you get to find 1995 or earlier Impreza or Legacy seat inner seat rails, Recaro seat rail adapters will accept any Recaro type bottom mount seat. The lateer cars use a redesigned inner rail that is not suitable. All Recaro bottom mount seats will mount these rails . The standard Subaru Prodrive road seat is the Recaro sport. The adapters are very the limited production, powder coated of  high quality steel. They are intended for the Recaro seats, though most others should work. Note that if you are over 5’11 and/or over 200lbs the Recaro SRD will not fit, better to use the Sport or WRX seats.

I used both a Recaro SRD and the WRX seat. Both work very well. Larger, taller drivers will prefer the Subaru WRX seat. Those under 5'8" and 160lbs. will be happier with the Recaro SRD.

SPD Tuning Service sells only Subaru and Recaro. Experience has proven that in three to four years time these seats are still in good shape while other seats are a gross disappointment every time you open your car door. Recaro owners often take their seat to a new car when selling their exiting ride.
